Bowmore Small Batch

Price: $60.15 (750 mL)

Location of distillery: Bowmore, Islay, Scotland

Matt's Review:
  • Overall rating: 4
  • Sweetness: 4
  • Smokiness: 4
  • Not really that flavourful or special. Tastes of caramel and toffee, with faint hints of smoke on the finish. You can easily do better
  • I would liken choosing this over another scotch to selecting 6061 over 7050 in a large strength driven machined part where cost isn't a huge deal. You could, but why would you?
  • Would not buy again - It was probably small batch for a reason

Random Category - Which Overwatch hero does this scotch bring to mind?
Matt - Sombra on defence. They may hack health packs or something, but you wonder what/if your teammate was thinking when they picked her into a Genji, Winston and Lucio dive comp

Tomatin 14 yr. Single Malt

Price: $96.70 (750 ml)

Location of Distillery: Highlands, Scotland

Steve's Review
  • Overall rating: 4
  • Smokiness: 8
  • Sweetness: 1
  • Quite smoky but not really in a good way, a bit medicine-y. Like if you threw a bunch of empty advil bottles into a fire and breathed in the fumes. Not sweet at all so not much to cover it up. Doesn't taste that strong which is good.
Max's Review
  • Overall Rating: 7
  • Smokiness: 3
  • Sweetness: 6
  • Not worth the cost. Still a very sweet scotch for a highland
  • Has a fruity nut taste on the palette with a hint of a cigar and an after taste that makes you think you just kissed your second cousin.

Random Category - What Matt catch phase does this scotch remind you of?

Steve - "Maybe we should send it to a concentration camp!" - Eric Cartman
Max - "Well fuck!"

Dalwhinnie Single Malt 15 yr.

Location of Distillery: Inverness-Shire, Scotland

Price: $94.95 (750ml)

Max's Review
  • Overall rating: 8.5
  • Smokiness: 4
  • Sweetness: 4
  • Not really smokey, not really sweet, Very smooth on the nose, clean and fresh with hints of floral
  • The subtle earthy/malty tones mixed with the toffee and nutmeg flavours really balance it out
  • Great with nacho chips
Steve's Review
  • Overall Rating: 9
  • Smokiness: 5
  • Sweetness: 4.5
  • Great after-taste. Strong pre-taste. Excellent taste-taste. Its a scotch's kind of scotch.Very well crafted balance of flavours. If I had one complaint it would be that this scotch lacks the dangerous, debonair, risk taking flair. In the world of Top Gun, this scotch would be the Iceman as opposed to Maverick.

Cragganmore 12 yr.

 $66.60 (750ml)

Matt's Review
  • Overall Rating: 8.5
  • Smokiness: 4

  • Not smokey, fairly sweet. Tastes of fresh fruit, honey and caramel with a woody/nutty backdrop. Enjoyable, tasty and easy drinking

Lagavulin Single Malt 16 yr.

Location of Distillery: Islay, Scotland

Price: $122.95 (750ml)

Will's Review
  • Overall rating: 9
  • Smokiness: 9
  • Sweetness: 3
  • Smokier than a Czech nightclub. Strong overtones of wood, leather, and molasses but without sweetness. A real mans drink and a friend forever.
  • You were right, anonymous commenter

Random Category - What would you mix with this scotch to make a bar shot and what would you call it?

Max - Mixed with Fireball...it's called "This Sex is on Fire"
Steve - 2 parts Dalwhinnie to 1 part Laphroig (or Talisker, something smokey / peaty). I would call it "A Tale of Two Worlds".
Matt -  Mixed with apple juice and molasses, called Afternoon Delight(It doesn't go in your brownie)
Will - Pure, finely pulped cash. It would be called "the cure for AIDS".
